PETITION

The State has a moral and constitutional obligation to provide our children with an education, in a safe and modern environment.
The children of Passage West along with all other children in the Republic of Ireland, deserve an environment that encourages their intellectual and physical development. A Government that tolerates overcrowded and unsafe schools, deprives children of their basic rights. A society that doesn't do its utmost to provide its children with the best education available, is short-sighted, even more so in this age of global competition and the need of a knowledge economy, and is immoral in its neglect of the present needs of its future earners.

The rapidly increasing population of Passage West urgently needs a new primary school, a building that was sanctioned by the Department of Education in 1999. We urge Minister Hanafin and the Department of Education to assign a design team, apply for the relevant planning and commence construction of our new school immediately. As our elected representatives, politicians have an obligation to keep their promises.
The children of today are our future.
